Andrew Hozier-Byrne, universally known by his stage name Hozier, is an influential Irish musician, singer, and songwriter hailing from Bray, County Wicklow, born on March 17, 1990. His music is a rich amalgamation of genres including folk, soul, blues, gospel, and indie rock, often infused with deep literary, mythological, and religious references, and a strong engagement with themes of social justice and human rights. Hozier burst onto the global music scene with the powerful single 'Take Me to Church' in 2013, a song that not only dominated international charts and earned a Grammy nomination for Song of the Year but also sparked significant cultural discourse due to its accompanying music video addressing homophobia. In 2023, he released his third album, 'Unreal Unearth,' a critically acclaimed concept work inspired by Dante's Inferno. This was followed by the EP 'Unheard' in 2024, which includes the chart-topping single 'Too Sweet,' his first number-one in countries like Ireland, the US, and the UK. Renowned for his distinctive baritone voice and songwriting prowess, Hozier continues to captivate audiences with his soulful music and emotionally charged live performances.
