Sixpence None the Richer formed in New Braunfels, Texas, in the early 1990s when vocalist Leigh Nash and guitarist Matt Slocum combined their talents. Initially rooted in Christian alternative rock, the band developed a distinctive sound that blended catchy pop melodies with introspective and often spiritually reflective lyrics. Their debut album, 'The Fatherless and the Widow', was released in 1994, followed by 'This Beautiful Mess' in 1995, which gained them recognition within the Christian music scene.

The international breakthrough came with their self-titled album, 'Sixpence None the Richer', released in 1997. The single 'Kiss Me', released in 1998, became a global phenomenon, featured in popular films and television shows, and catapulting the band to worldwide fame. The song earned a Grammy nomination and remains a staple of late '90s pop. Other successful singles like their cover of The La's 'There She Goes' and Crowded House's 'Don't Dream It's Over' also enjoyed widespread popularity. After a hiatus, the band reunited, releasing new music such as the 'Rosemary Hill' EP in 2024 and the 'Live at Gruene Hall' album in 2025, showcasing their enduring appeal and evolving sound.
